Halloween yard props fail on the first layer, not the model

Most “bad STL” complaints on Halloween props are actually first-layer problems.

Large outdoor pieces (tombstones, lanterns, fence panels) warp because the bed isn’t holding a 200–300mm footprint, not because the mesh is broken.

What I run on PLA for yard props:

  • First layer 0.28–0.32mm, 50–55mm/s, bed 60°C

  • Brim 8–12mm on anything wider than 150mm

  • Dry filament. Night prints in a garage will wreck adhesion.

  • Split tall pieces at a seam you can hide with paint, don’t print 400mm in one shot

If the file is actually bad you’ll see holes, inverted normals, or walls thinner than your nozzle. That’s a mesh issue. Elephant foot and lifted corners are not.

I built Ember Lane around that: print-ready files plus a hard cap of two 45-minute printer sessions each 7-day cycle. No lifetime, no “unlimited support.” If you print haunted-yard stuff and keep losing nights to bed adhesion, that’s the loop.
