The #1 thing bad shooters do (and how to fix it)
Most bad shooters catch the ball before they're ready to shoot it.
Think about it — you're running off a screen, the ball comes, and you're still getting your feet set. By the time you load up, the defense has closed out. Shot contested. Brick.
Elite shooters are the opposite. Their feet are ready BEFORE the catch. The ball arrives, they're already loaded, and the release is instant.
Coach Haskell calls this "ready, catch, shoot" — and it's the single biggest difference between a player who can shoot in practice and one who can shoot in games.
Here's a simple drill to train it: Have a partner hold the ball. Fire your feet (fast choppy steps). The moment they pass, catch with your feet already in your shooting base. Load and hold — don't even shoot yet. Just check your form.
Do this for 90 seconds. You'll feel the difference immediately.
This is one of 40+ drills in the Haskell's Hits program at WBA Shooting Academy. If you're serious about becoming a better shooter, this is where you start.
