Why most custom cap orders go wrong (and how to avoid it)

I've fulfilled hundreds of bulk cap orders. Here's what I see go wrong 90% of the time:

1. Bad artwork files

If your logo is a screenshot from Instagram, it's going to look terrible embroidered. Always use vector files (.AI, .EPS, .SVG) or at minimum a high-res PNG (300+ DPI). This alone prevents most production delays.

2. Ordering the wrong cap style

Structured vs. unstructured. Snapback vs. dad hat vs. trucker. Each has a completely different vibe. If you're doing merch for a streetwear brand, a floppy unstructured cap isn't it. Know your audience.

3. Not ordering enough

The price per cap drops significantly at higher quantities. Going from 12 to 24 caps saves you $2/cap. Going to 100 saves $4/cap. If you're going to need more later, order more now.

4. Rushing the timeline

Good embroidery and quality checks take time. Plan 2-3 weeks ahead and you'll get a much better result than panic-ordering a week before your event.

At Headlooks, we handle all of this for you — design guidance, quality materials, and transparent pricing. If you need custom caps done right, check out our product page.
