The 5-ingredient rule that changed dinner in my house
I used to spend 45 minutes scrolling recipes after work, then another hour cooking something my kids wouldn't touch. Sound familiar?
Here's the shift that fixed it: every weeknight meal has 5 ingredients or less (salt, pepper, and oil don't count).
Not because I'm lazy — because constraints force creativity, and simple meals actually taste better when you nail the fundamentals.
A few examples from this week:
🍗 Crispy chicken thighs — chicken, honey, soy sauce, garlic, sesame seeds. 25 minutes. My 6-year-old had seconds.
🌮 Sheet pan tacos — ground turkey, taco seasoning, bell peppers, tortillas, cheese. One pan, zero cleanup drama.
🍝 Garlic butter pasta — pasta, butter, garlic, parmesan, frozen peas. 15 minutes from stove to table. The peas make it "healthy enough" on a Tuesday.
The trick isn't finding the perfect recipe. It's having 10-15 go-to meals your family actually eats, and rotating them. No decision fatigue. No wasted groceries.
That's exactly what I'm building inside Kitchen Fam — a rotating library of simple, kid-approved recipes + weekly meal plans so you never have to think about "what's for dinner" again.
If you're a parent who's tired of the dinner scramble, come hang. 🍳
