The Exact Resume Format That Gets Software Engineers $200k+ Offers

Most engineering resumes are invisible. I've reviewed over 500 in the last year and the same pattern keeps showing up: vague descriptions, no numbers, and a format that makes recruiters' eyes glaze over.

Here's what actually works at the $200k+ level:

Kill the objective statement. Nobody cares about your "passion for building scalable systems." Replace it with a one-line summary: "Backend engineer, 6 years, built the data pipeline processing 2M events/day at [Company]."

Every bullet needs a number. Not "improved performance." Instead: "Reduced API latency from 800ms to 120ms by redesigning the caching layer, eliminating ~$40k/month in compute costs." That's interview bait.

Lead with impact, not responsibilities. "Led a team of 5 engineers" tells me nothing. "Led the migration of 40M user records from Postgres to Aurora with zero downtime, shipping 3 weeks ahead of schedule" tells me everything.

Remove the skills section graveyard. Nobody is impressed by a wall of logos. Keep it to the 5-6 technologies you'd be comfortable whiteboarding on Day 1.

One page. No exceptions. If a Staff Engineer at Google can fit their career on one page, so can you.

The difference between a $120k resume and a $250k resume isn't experience — it's how you frame the experience you already have.

I help software engineers making $65k+ land $150k-$300k+ roles in 90 days through coaching, resume positioning, and automated applications at scale.
