What actually matters when buying a refurbished iPhone (from someone who sells them)
I sell refurbished iPhones and I get the same question constantly: "how do I know it's not junk?" Here's what actually separates a good refurb from a bad one:
Battery health — anything under 85% is a red flag. Ask for the number, don't just take "good condition" as an answer.
Grading transparency — Grade A/B/C should mean something specific (screen scratches, body dents, etc.), not just a vibe. If a seller can't explain their grading, walk.
Unlock status — carrier-locked phones are a nightmare to resell or switch providers later. Always confirm it's factory unlocked.
Function testing — Face ID, cameras, speakers, and charging port should all be explicitly tested, not assumed.
The reason refurbished phones get a bad rap is that too many sellers skip these checks to move inventory faster. It's not hard to do right — it just takes longer per unit, which is why cheap-and-fast sellers cut corners.
