Been building a clipping agency (Ice Clips) matching clippers with paid campaigns, and the biggest thing I've noticed separating a $2 clip from a $2,000 clip isn't editing skill — it's the first 3 seconds.

A few patterns that consistently outperform:

• Cut cold into the payoff, not the setup. If the source clip has a punchline, reaction, or reveal, open on it. Backfill context with captions if needed.

• Caption everything. Most views come from sound-off scrolling. If your hook only works with audio, you've lost half your reach before it counts.

• Post volume beats perfect edits early on. New clippers obsess over one perfect cut. The accounts that actually earn are posting 5-10 clips a day and letting the algorithm find the winner.

• Track which source moments repeat across your winners. Certain topics/hooks from the same podcast or streamer will spike again and again — mine those instead of clipping everything sequentially.
