Why most candles are a scam (and what to look for instead)

Real talk — 90% of candles on the market are made with paraffin wax, synthetic fragrances, and lead-core wicks. You're literally burning petroleum in your living room.

Here's what actually matters when buying a candle:

1. Wax type — Soy, coconut, or beeswax. Clean burn, no black soot on your walls.

2. Fragrance — Look for phthalate-free fragrance oils or essential oils. If the ingredients aren't listed, that's a red flag.

3. Wick — Cotton or wood wicks only. If the wick has a metal core, put it down.

4. Burn time — A quality candle should give you 40-60 hours from an 8oz jar. If it's gone in 20, you got played.

5. The vessel — Glass or ceramic that can be repurposed. Sustainability isn't optional anymore.

This is exactly how we approach every candle at IIV IIV (88). Premium ingredients, clean burns, packaging you actually want to keep.

If you care about what you put in your space, you already get it.
