5 things cruise passengers always get wrong about St. Kitts
I've lived in St. Kitts for years and I watch the same mistakes every single cruise day. Here's what I see:
1. Taking the first taxi at the port
Those guys charge 3-4x the normal rate. Walk 2 minutes past the port gates and you'll find drivers at half the price — or better yet, grab a local bus for $2.50 XCD.
2. Going straight to Cockleshell Beach
It's the most marketed beach on the island, which means it's the most crowded on cruise days. Frigate Bay South is 10 minutes closer, has better food, and you'll actually get a chair.
3. Eating at port restaurants
The food near the cruise terminal exists for tourists, not for flavor. The real food is in Basseterre town — a 5-minute walk. Local roti and stewed chicken will change your life and cost you $5 USD.
4. Skipping Nevis entirely
The ferry to Nevis takes 45 minutes each way, which feels like a lot when you only have 6-8 hours. But if your ship is docked until 5pm, it's absolutely doable — and Nevis is the quieter, more beautiful sister island.
5. Not having a plan
6-8 hours sounds like a lot until you're standing at the port Googling "things to do in St. Kitts." By the time you figure it out, half your day is gone.
That's exactly why I built the Island Blueprint guide — a minute-by-minute itinerary built by a local so you don't waste a second. Check it out if your ship's heading this way.
