3 reasons your store isn't profitable (and it's not your product)
I've helped scale 40+ stores. The product is almost never the problem.
Here's what actually kills margins:
1. You're testing creatives, not angles. Running 3 videos of the same product the same way isn't a test. The angle is the ad. "Back pain relief" and "finally sleep through the night" are the same product — completely different conversion rates. Most people never find the winning angle because they give up after 2 creatives.
2. Your backend doesn't exist. If you're relying on the first purchase to be profitable, you've already lost. AOV bumps, post-purchase upsells, and a single 3-email abandon flow can flip a losing store into a profitable one without touching ad spend.
3. You picked a product. You didn't pick a customer. Who buys this? What do they also buy? What do they search at 11pm? If you can't answer that, your targeting will always be expensive. The stores that scale obsess over the person, not the SKU.
Dark Horse exists because most ecom content is either too basic or too vague to actually use.
