The 3 mistakes startups make when building their first tech stack

Most early-stage founders treat their tech stack like an afterthought. They cobble together a Shopify theme, some random plugins, and a shared hosting plan — then wonder why everything breaks at 500 users.

After building infrastructure for dozens of startups, here are the 3 biggest mistakes I see:

1. Over-engineering from day one

You don't need Kubernetes, microservices, and a CI/CD pipeline before you have paying customers. Start with a monolith. Ship fast. Optimize later.

2. Choosing tools based on hype, not fit

That new JS framework your developer friend recommended? It might be great for their use case and terrible for yours. Match your tools to your actual business model — e-commerce, SaaS, and marketplace all have fundamentally different requirements.

3. No plan for the first 10x

Your site handles 100 orders a day. Cool. What happens at 1,000? If you don't build with your first scaling milestone in mind, you'll end up rewriting everything under pressure.

We help startups get this right the first time — clean architecture, the right tools, and a foundation that scales. If you're about to build (or rebuild), reach out.
