The stuff sitting in your garage is worth more than you think — here's how to actually move it

Spent the last few weeks pricing out used furniture, tools, and appliances before launching JunkSwap, and a few things surprised me:

  • Condition beats brand. A $40 IKEA dresser in great shape outsells a beat-up $400 solid wood one every time. Buyers assume anything secondhand needs work, so a clean listing photo does half the selling for you.

  • Trade offers convert better than you'd expect. If you list something and say "open to trade for X," you get more replies than a firm price, because it turns a stranger transaction into a negotiation people actually enjoy.

  • Bundle the small stuff. Nobody wants to arrange pickup for a $5 lamp. Bundle 4-5 small items into one "moving out, take it all" listing and it moves same-day.

  • Appliances need one sentence of proof. "Tested, powers on, no error codes" gets 3x the replies of just "works fine."

If you're sitting on a garage full of stuff you keep meaning to sell, that's exactly why we built JunkSwap — a place to list it, trade it, or sell it to someone local instead of hauling it to the dump. Would rather see it pay someone's rent than sit under a tarp.
