Why my numbers are harder to fake than most

Anyone can show you a backtest. Here is what has to happen before a result of mine is allowed to exist. šŸ”

The research engine and the trading platform have to agree trade for trade on a frozen reference run before anything ships. Both years of the sample have to stand on their own rather than leaning on one lucky stretch. And I dropped the overfitting score I used to quote, because I worked out it reads near perfect for almost any candidate once the sample is big enough, which makes it decoration rather than a test.

None of it makes the system work in future. Its just that the past result is probably real, which is a much smaller claim than most pages make.

The honest limit here is execution, not analysis. A read like this survives contact with a chart far better than it survives contact with a human deciding whether to take it at 3am, which is most of why I stopped deciding and wrote the rules into an engine instead.

Why I Keep Refining

Progress in research is often invisible at first. 🧩

A cleaner metric here.

A better export there.

A tighter validation rule somewhere else.

Then one day the process becomes much more stable.

That is the kind of improvement I am after.

This is how mature systems get built:

less noise, fewer hidden assumptions, better reuse.

What would you want to see before trusting a result like this?

₿ BTC levels for the New York open - which scenario are you backing?

83,960 is the line. Below it this bounce is a retest; above it the bearish read is wrong.

  • Flow: sharp M5 bounce off POC 82,970 into VWAP 83,390; EMA100/200 still above, sloping down.

  • Scenario 2: M5 close above 83,700 → 83,960, then 84,480.

šŸ“Š Key levels

šŸ”¼ Resistance: 83700 → 84480

šŸ”½ Support: 82970 → 82620

šŸ”‘ The setup

  • Last read: 84,006 invalidation held, 83,192 support broke down to 82,557 āœ…

  • Session: BTC pre-New York (opens 12:30 UTC). Context BEARISH, lean 55/45 lower.

  • Scenario 1: rejection under 83,700 (mVAL + EMA100) → 82,970, then 82,620.

  • Invalid: close above 83,960 (mPOC + EMA200). If it prints before 82,970, this read was wrong.

šŸ—žļø Backdrop

Reuters reports the dollar steadied near a two-month high as a US-Iran stalemate lifted oil and Fed rate-hike bets built, while gold hit a seven-week low on the same inflation worries. That tighter-money backdrop coincided with BTC's slide but does not change the levels above.

The invalidation is the only part of this I would defend: 83960. Everything above it is a framing, and framings are cheap. If price accepts through that level and holds, the read is finished and I am not looking for a reason it still works. That last part took me far longer to learn than the level did.

Every rule you add is a tax you pay every month

There is a moment in building a system where adding one more condition always improves the

backtest, and it is the most dangerous moment in the whole process. šŸŽÆ

The tax is paid later, and it is paid every month, in the form of a system that behaves in ways

you cannot predict when conditions move even slightly.

Most of the ideas that made the curve prettier did not survive that. Two of them made more money

in the fitted window and still lost, once the search width was accounted for.

What I found:

The models that keep working after the backtest ends tend to be the ones with few moving parts

you can hold in your head. Not because simple is virtuous, but because you can tell when a simple

thing has broken.

Where does your own experience disagree with this?

If you are reading this without having joined anything: the part worth taking is the method, not the level. Levels expire in hours. Writing the invalidation down before the entry has held up for me a great deal longer than any single number has.

Hi traders,

I hope you are enjoying a new productive week :) How are your trades from the beginning of Asia session today? 😊

MasterVP trading bot in my public live account is doing pretty well with a tiny RPT as always.

You can easily see that it has up and down moments in the first weeks, and now (as the math showed me), it's taking everything back.

Depending on when you checkout the link, there may be 1 or 2 active trades now, please have a look (Not a financial advice).

Magic number

Ran two Experts on one account and gave them the same magic number, which is the identifier each one uses to recognise its own orders. šŸŽÆ

So each of them managed the other's positions. Very politely. For about an hour.

Nothing dramatic happened, which is the unsettling part. Two systems can be quietly wrong together and the equity curve looks fine.

Should You Trade a System by Hand or Automate It?

Hand or machine is a calendar question before it is a skill question. Why the trades a manual trader skips are never random, and what two machines running the same gold rule on the same ticks still disagree on.

Is there a simpler explanation I am missing?

What I left out of the post: the version of this that failed first. Most of what I publish is the third or fourth attempt at the same idea and the earlier ones died quietly. Happy to go into which ones, if that is the more useful half.

Why I Care About Sample Quality

A small sample can mislead even when the numbers look exciting. šŸ”

So I pay attention to how many trades a result comes from.

I pay attention to regime coverage.

I pay attention to whether the result is broad or narrow.

Good sample quality matters as much as good numbers.

If one quarter or one regime drives most of the result, I treat that result carefully.

So the DQuants engine I developed tracks trade count and regime coverage alongside the headline numbers, so a narrow sample can't masquerade as a broad edge.

I am still working this out, so push back if your data disagrees.

The part of this I keep having to re-learn is that a rule only counts if it was written down before the candle, not after it. If anything above reads like hindsight to you, say so and I will go back and check when it was actually decided.

The order it closed for me

Session ends, the rule flattens everything, and I sat there mildly annoyed because the move looked like it wanted to keep going. ā±ļø

It did keep going. For about forty minutes. Then it gave the whole thing back, which I only know because I went and looked, like a normal well adjusted person.

The rule is not smarter than me. It is just not curious at the wrong moment.

₿ BTC levels for the New York open - which level matters most to you today?

84304 is the lid. Above it 84600 opens; below 83966 this up-lean is wrong.

  • Pre New York open (12:30 UTC), thin weekend tape. 84165 above VWAP 84014, M5 EMAs stacked up, M15 EMA200 84171 on price.

  • Lean 55/45 higher; Net Vol sell-side on low volume, near a coin flip.

  • M5 close above 84304 → 84600.

  • Lose POC 84050 → 83873.

  • If 83966 prints before 84600, this read was wrong and the next scorecard says so.

šŸ“Š Key levels

šŸ”¼ Resistance: 84304 → 84600

šŸ”½ Support: 84050 → 83873 → 83966

šŸ”‘ The setup

  • Last read (Sep 25 Asia): 84480 invalidation broke, that bearish map was wrong āŒ

  • Stuck 84050-84304 → stand aside.

  • Invalid: M5 close below 83966.

šŸ—žļø Backdrop

Reuters reports mounting Fed rate-hike bets and a jump in bond yields, a firmer-dollar backdrop for risk assets. Separately, exchange Bitget paused withdrawals after a $350 million hack. Neither changes the levels above; weekend liquidity matters more here.
