Why most Dota 2 kill total 'services' die in 3 weeks (and the fix)
Most kill total feeds fail for one reason: they sell picks, not a model.
A pick is a single opinion on a single match. It has no memory, no consistency, and no way to improve. The moment you miss a few in a row, subscribers have zero reason to believe next week will be different — because there's no system behind it, just a person guessing.
A model is different. It's built from fixed, trackable inputs:
Draft speed score (how fast a hero combo typically produces first blood/early kills)
Laning aggression index (kill-lane vs farm-lane comp matchups)
Pace-adjusted expected game length (does either team's win condition want to end the game fast?)
Historical head-to-head kill total averages
A patch meta multiplier (some patches just produce more kills — track it, don't ignore it)
When you publish a line, you're not "guessing an over/under" — you're outputting the result of a repeatable process. That's the difference between a service that survives one bad week and one that doesn't.
The other big failure point: billing structure. A lot of these services default to monthly billing, which means you get exactly one shot a month to prove value, and one bad stretch can tank 30 days of retention risk in one go. Weekly billing gives you faster feedback loops in both directions — subscribers see fast proof, and you catch churn signals early enough to actually fix them (a proactive message before a bad renewal beats a discount code after a cancellation, every time).
If you're building or running one of these feeds — happy to go deeper on the model mechanics or the retention side in the comments.
