The 3 stitches every beginner needs to learn first
Most people overcomplicate learning to knit. You don't need 47 YouTube tutorials. You need three stitches.
1. Knit stitch — The foundation of everything. Once this clicks, you're 60% of the way there. Practice until you can do it without looking at your hands.
2. Purl stitch — The knit stitch's mirror image. Together with knit, you can make stockinette (that smooth fabric you see on store-bought sweaters). That's already enough to make a scarf.
3. Cast on / bind off — How you start and finish any project. Learn the long-tail cast on. It's cleaner and faster than the beginner methods most people teach.
That's it. Three stitches = your first real project.
