You don't freeze because your Korean is bad. You freeze in the 3-second pause.

You understood most of what they said. Then they stopped talking. Three seconds. Your brain reached for English.

That's not a vocabulary problem. That's a follow-up problem.

Apps teach you 오늘 하루 어땠어? Nobody teaches you what to say after they answer.

The lines that buy you time:

  • 그래서? — So then?

  • 진짜? — Really?

  • 짜증 났겠다 — That must have been annoying

  • 잘했네 — You handled that well

You can say these even if you missed a word. They keep Korean going. "Wait, English" trains both of you to quit.

If you live with someone who speaks Korean, stop collecting nouns. Survive the pause.

Tonight: ask about their day. Reply with only 그래서? or 진짜? for sixty seconds. See what happens.
