Been building French listening drills for a while now, and here's the pattern I keep seeing:

Most learners study grammar for years, pass B1/B2 comfortably, then hit a wall at C1. Why? Because textbook French and spoken French are basically two different languages. Native speakers drop syllables, elide words together, use slang that never shows up in a manual — and DELF/DALF listening sections are built entirely around real, unscripted speech.

The fix isn't more grammar drills. It's raw exposure to native-speed audio, broken down enough that you can actually parse it instead of just recognizing 60% of the words and guessing the rest.

A few things that helped the learners I work with the most:

• Watch the same 2-3 min clip 4-5 times before reading the transcript

• Shadow (repeat out loud in real time) instead of just listening passively

• Track why you missed a word — elision, slang, speed, or vocab — not just that you missed it
