Why most students quit AI study tools in week one (and how we fixed it)
Built a lot of study tools over the years and noticed the same failure mode every time: someone signs up, gets dropped into a generic chatbot, asks one vague question, gets a generic answer, and never comes back.
The tool wasn't the problem — the cold start was. A 16-year-old cramming for the SAT and a 30-year-old studying for a certification exam need completely different things from an "AI tutor," but almost every product treats them identically on day one.
So with Learnly AI we made the first 5 minutes do the heavy lifting: a short onboarding quiz on grade level, subject, learning style, and actual goal, before you ever type a question. The AI's tone, pacing, and explanation depth all shift based on that — a STEM college student gets terse, technical breakdowns; a high schooler prepping for APs gets more scaffolding and check-ins.
Small thing, but it's the difference between a tool people bail on and one they actually keep opening. If you're building anything AI-driven for a broad audience, front-load the personalization — don't bolt it on after the fact.
