I've been building automated trading systems for years. Here's the uncomfortable truth: 90% of trading bots lose money. Not because automation doesn't work — but because most devs skip the boring stuff.
Here are the 3 things that actually matter:
1. Risk management > entry signals. Everyone obsesses over when to enter. The real edge is position sizing and drawdown limits. If your bot can't survive a -30% day, it won't survive period.
2. Backtest on out-of-sample data. If you're optimizing on the same dataset you're testing on, you're not testing — you're overfitting. Split your data. Walk it forward. Be honest with yourself.
3. Latency isn't everything. Unless you're doing HFT at the exchange level, a 50ms vs 5ms execution difference won't make or break your strategy. Focus on logic first, optimize infrastructure second.
I built Lebgo as a marketplace where serious bot developers can list, share, and sell their strategies to traders who actually understand the game.
If you build trading bots and want a community of devs who take this seriously — check us out.
