3 things I wish someone told me before I started trading options
I blew my first account in 6 weeks. Bought weekly calls on hype stocks, held through earnings, and treated stop losses like suggestions.
Here's what I learned the hard way:
1. Position sizing > stock picks. The best traders in the world are wrong 40% of the time. The difference is they risk 1-2% per trade, not 20%. If you're risking more than 2% of your account on a single play, you're gambling.
2. Learn to read price action before you touch options. Options are a leverage tool — they amplify everything, including your mistakes. Understand support, resistance, and volume first. The Greeks can wait.
3. Paper trading is NOT a waste of time. I know it feels fake. But if you can't be profitable on paper, real money won't fix that. Give it 30 days minimum.
I built LevelUp Trading to be the community I needed when I was starting out — live signals with full breakdowns, daily market analysis, and a crew of traders who actually help each other.
If you're a beginner trying to do this the right way, we should talk.
