Real talk — most people's hat collections are boring. 3 black caps, a navy one, maybe a team hat from 2019. Sound familiar?

Here's the thing: a hat is the easiest way to completely change your outfit without buying a whole new wardrobe. But most people default to the same safe picks because they don't know where to look.

A few rules I follow when curating hats:

1. Texture matters more than color. A corduroy cap in beige hits completely different than a basic cotton one in the same shade. Same with wool, suede, and canvas.

2. Fit is everything. Not every head shape works with every crown height. If you've been wearing structured 6-panels your whole life, try an unstructured 5-panel. Game changer.

3. One bold hat > five boring ones. You don't need 20 hats. You need 3-4 that actually make people ask "where'd you get that?"
