5 lighting mistakes that make your room look cheap (and how to fix them)
Most people spend hundreds on furniture and decor but completely ignore the one thing that ties a room together — lighting.
Here are the 5 biggest lighting mistakes I see:
1. Relying on overhead lights only
That single ceiling light washes everything out. Layer your lighting — ambient strips behind your desk or bed frame instantly add depth.
2. Using cool white LEDs
Cool white gives off office/hospital vibes. Warm white (2700-3000K) or warm amber is the move for bedrooms.
3. No indirect lighting
The best setups use light you can't directly see the source of. Behind monitors, under shelves, along baseboards — that's where the magic happens.
4. Too many colors at once
RGB is cool but pick a palette. 2-3 complementary colors max. Purple + warm white? Elite. Full rainbow? Not it.
5. Ignoring dimming
Being able to control brightness is everything. A room that looks good at 11pm should look good at 2am too.
If you want to level up your room, I just dropped an affordable LED kit that fixes all of these. Link in bio. 💡
