Why your neighborhood needs its own feed (not another Facebook group)

I keep seeing the same problem in every neighborhood Facebook group: it's 90% noise, run by an algorithm that doesn't care about your street, and half the people posting aren't even local anymore.

So I built LocalLoop — a feed that's actually scoped to real neighborhoods. No global algorithm deciding what you see. Just the people and small businesses near you: garage sales, local gigs, "does anyone know a good electrician," the coffee shop down the block posting their new menu.

A few things I learned building this:

  • Hyperlocal only works if both sides show up — residents AND small businesses in the same feed, not two separate apps

  • People trust recommendations from someone three houses down way more than a stranger with 10k followers

  • The best local marketplaces aren't about scale, they're about density — 200 active neighbors beats 20,000 scattered users

If you're building anything community-related, my advice: stop trying to be everywhere. Get one block, one building, one town obsessed first. Density beats reach every time.
