LuRL is Looking for Mentors

We're building a community of students chasing international scholarships and jobs abroad. We need mentors who've been there.

What We're Looking For

You've successfully navigated one or more of these:

• Won a full or partial international scholarship (Chevening, Fulbright, DAAD, Erasmus Mundus, etc.)

• Got a job + visa sponsorship abroad (H-1B, UK Visa, EU work permit, etc.)

• Studied abroad and stayed internationally (or came home with options)

• Applied to 5+ scholarships and know the game

What You'd Do

2-5 hours/week in the Mentor Matching Chat:

• Answer student questions about applications, essays, eligibility, visa timelines

• Review 1-2 application drafts/essays per week (students provide them)

• Share your story — what worked, what didn't, what you wish you'd known

• Help students pick the right scholarship/country for their goals

What You Get Paid

• Base: $200-300/month (depending on availability)

• Bonus: Referral commission if a mentee converts to Premium ($5/conversion)

• Networking: Connect with ambitious students from 20+ countries building stuff

• Flexibility: No fixed hours — answer when you're free

I spent a long time watching brilliant students in Africa, South Asia, and LATAM get rejected from fully-funded scholarships not because they weren't qualified, but because they applied to the wrong programs, missed obscure deadlines, or had zero feedback on their essays before hitting submit.

The information exists. It's just scattered across 40 different university websites, buried Reddit threads, and Facebook groups run by strangers. Nobody is aggregating it, and almost nobody is checking your application before it's too late to fix.

A few things I've learned building in this space:

• Fully-funded scholarships (tuition + stipend + flights) exist for way more countries than people think — Chevening, DAAD, Fulbright, Erasmus Mundus, MEXT, and dozens of smaller ones nobody talks about.

• The biggest single point of failure isn't grades — it's the personal statement. A second pair of eyes from someone who's been through the process catches 90% of avoidable rejections.

• Mentorship from someone who's actually done the move (not a paid consultant who's never left their home country) changes outcomes more than any single resource.

That's the gap we're building LuRL to close — a place where students get matched with real mentors and a curated, up-to-date list of what's actually fundable, instead of guessing.
