Step 2 — Vetting

We verify your ID, background, and references before you go live to host families. This protects you AND makes you more attractive to serious families — vetted profiles get placed faster.

Step 3 — Matching

Once approved, your profile appears on our Vetted Au Pair Profiles board. Host families reach out directly. We never charge au pairs a placement fee — our revenue comes from host families, not you.

Step 4 — Support

Once placed, you get access to the Au Pair Community Chat for peer support, plus direct access to our team if anything feels off with your placement. You are never on your own.

I started Luxeher after watching too many South African women get placed with families abroad through agencies that vanished the moment something went wrong.

A few things I wish every au pair candidate knew before applying anywhere:

1. "Placement fee" and "membership fee" are not the same thing. Some agencies charge YOU to join the pool. That's backwards — the host family is the one hiring, so the family should carry the cost. If an agency asks for money upfront to "unlock" job listings, that's a red flag.

2. Vetting goes both ways. A legit agency should be background-checking the host family just as hard as it checks you — home visits, references, clear terms on hours, stipend, and time off. Ask to see how they screen families before you hand over your documents.

3. Visa and travel logistics are where placements fall apart. Get everything about flights, visa sponsorship, and who pays for what in writing before you say yes to a family.
