SBA Loan Deal Screen: Free Lender Test Before You Buy a Business

26 members

Will an SBA loan finance this business? Run the lender's test on any listing.

A free SBA loan screen for anyone buying a business: test a listing against the lender’s debt service coverage and equity rules, and see the highest price it supports.

Most listings fail the lender’s test before anyone runs it. Run it yourself, first.

The Deal Screen applies the test an SBA lender uses on a business for sale: once someone is paid to run it and the equipment is kept working, is there enough cash left to pay the loan, with a 25% margin?

What you get

  • The Deal Check (Excel): enter the asking price, the seller’s earnings and your cash. It returns debt service coverage against the SBA’s 1.25× minimum, the equity test, and the highest price the cash flow supports
  • The Deal Screen (PDF, 9 pages): why the seller’s multiple misleads, the equity you must bring, eight rules that end deals late, and what an SBA loan costs

Written to SBA SOP 50 10 8.1 (effective 1 October 2026) and the FY2027 SBA fee notice. Every rule cites its source.
