Could you pass the CSWA without getting stuck on the basics? 👀
The CSWA is not just about knowing where the SOLIDWORKS tools are.
You need to be comfortable with:
1. Sketches & relations
Fully define your sketches and understand how dimensions affect the model.
2. Features
Extrudes, revolves, cuts, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers and patterns.
3. Mass properties
Know how to check mass, volume and other properties when the problem requires them.
4. Assemblies & mates
Coincident, concentric, distance, angle and other standard mates can make or break an assembly problem.
5. Drawings & dimensions
Read the drawing correctly before you start modeling.
And one of the biggest mistakes?
Starting to model before understanding the drawing.
Take 30 seconds.
Read the dimensions.
Plan your feature tree.
Then build.
The official CSWA exam is 3 hours with a 70% minimum passing grade, and it can cover hands-on SOLIDWORKS skills including sketches, features, mass properties, materials, assemblies, mates and drawings.
That's exactly why I started building Engy Lab — practical CSWA preparation focused on actually modeling, not just reading theory.
