The 3 Biggest Mistakes Beginner Investors Make
I've talked to hundreds of people who are just getting started with investing. Almost all of them make the same 3 mistakes.
1. Buying based on hype, not fundamentals
"My coworker made 200% on this stock" is not a thesis. Before you buy anything, you should be able to explain in one sentence why the company will be worth more in 5 years. If you can't — you're gambling, not investing.
2. Checking their portfolio every hour
Markets go up and down every single day. If you're watching your portfolio constantly, you'll panic sell at the worst possible time. The best investors set a strategy and stick to it. Check in once a week max.
3. Not starting because they think they need a lot of money
You don't need $10,000 to start. You can invest with $50. The point isn't the amount — it's building the habit. Even $25/week into an index fund compounds into serious money over 10-20 years.
