Why most creators lose viewers in the first 3 seconds (and how to fix it)
Most creators spend hours filming content but barely think about the edit. Here's the truth: your edit is your content. The raw footage is just the ingredient — the edit is the meal.
After editing hundreds of short form and long form videos for creators across YouTube and TikTok, here are the 3 biggest mistakes I see:
1. Weak hooks. You have 1-3 seconds to stop the scroll. If your first frame doesn't create a question, show movement, or trigger emotion — you lost them. I always cut the first 5-10 seconds of raw footage because the real hook is buried later.
2. No pacing variety. Jump cuts every 2 seconds gets old fast. The best edits breathe — fast sections, slow sections, and strategic pauses that build anticipation. Watch any top creator and count the rhythm changes.
3. Ignoring audio design. Sound effects, music swells, and silence are editing tools most people sleep on. A well-timed whoosh or bass drop can turn a mid clip into something shareable.
If you're a creator doing 50K-500K and you're still editing everything yourself — you're leaving growth on the table. Your time is worth more on the creative side.
I handle short form edits, long form YouTube editing, and full channel management. DM me or check out my packages if you want to level up your content.
