Most independent rappers record a solid track, bounce it out, and upload it straight to DistroKid. Then they wonder why it sounds quiet, muddy, or just off compared to everything else on Spotify.

Here's the deal: streaming platforms apply loudness normalization (around -14 LUFS). If your track isn't mastered to hit that sweet spot, the algorithm will either crush it or leave it sounding weak next to Drake or Kendrick.

Three things that make the biggest difference:

• Clean low end — 808s and kicks need to be controlled, not clipping. A proper mix carves out space so your bass hits hard without eating the vocals.

• Vocal clarity — De-essing, proper compression, and EQ on your main vocal is non-negotiable. If your voice isn't cutting through the beat, the mix isn't done.

• Loudness targeting — Your master should sit around -14 to -12 LUFS integrated. Too hot and streaming platforms turn you down. Too quiet and you get lost in playlists.
