3 SEO mistakes killing your Shopify store's rankings (that have nothing to do with keywords)
Ran a few hundred Shopify SEO audits building MoneyRain, and the same 3 issues keep showing up — none of them are about "keyword density" or whatever blog posts tell you to obsess over.
Duplicate product URLs from variants and collections. Shopify auto-generates multiple URLs pointing to the same product (via /collections/x/products/y paths). Google sees this as duplicate content and splits your ranking signal across pages instead of consolidating it. Canonical tags fix this but most themes don't set them correctly out of the box.
Product images with zero alt text and huge file sizes. Two problems in one: you're leaving free image-search traffic on the table, and slow-loading pages get quietly deprioritized in mobile rankings. Compress images and write descriptive alt text — it's a 10-minute fix per page that most stores never do.
Collection pages with no unique copy. If your collection page is just a grid of products with zero text, Google has nothing to rank it on. Add 150-200 words of real copy above the fold — what's in the collection, who it's for, why it's curated this way.
Fixing these three across a store is usually a few hours of work and it's the highest-leverage SEO move most Shopify owners never make because it's not "sexy" advice. Happy to answer questions if you're debugging your own store's rankings.
