The 3-Number Rule: How to Build a Monthly Spending Plan in Under 10 Minutes

Most people think budgeting means tracking every single dollar. That's why most people quit within a week.

Here's a simpler approach that actually works — I call it the 3-Number Rule.

---

The 3 Numbers You Need

Number 1: Your take-home income.

Not your salary. Not your gross pay. The actual amount that hits your bank account each month, after taxes and deductions. If it varies, use your lowest month from the past 3 months.

Number 2: Your fixed bills total.

Add up everything that's the same every month — rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance, loan payments, subscriptions. These are non-negotiable costs. Write them all down. Most people have 8-12 of these.

Number 3: Your flexible spending budget.

This is simple math: Income minus Fixed Bills = Flexible Budget. This is the money you actually get to decide how to spend — groceries, eating out, gas, entertainment, clothes, random Amazon purchases.

---

Why This Works

When you know your flexible number, everything changes:

  • You stop wondering "can I afford this?" because you already know what's left

  • You stop overspending on autopilot because you have a clear boundary

  • You stop feeling guilty about spending money because it's already accounted for

---

The Weekly Check-In (2 Minutes)

Every Sunday, spend 2 minutes checking where your flexible spending stands:

  • On track? Keep going.

  • Over budget in one category? Pull back somewhere else this week.

  • Under budget? Move the extra to savings or let it roll.

That's it. No color-coded spreadsheets. No receipt hoarding. Just 3 numbers and a 2-minute weekly check.

Want the Full System?

I built a tracker that walks you through this entire process step by step — income snapshot, fixed bills planner, flexible categories, weekly check-ins, and end-of-month reviews. It's designed for people who never learned to budget and want something that actually fits real life.

$19, one-time purchase. No subscriptions, no upsells.

If you've read this far, you already care enough to make it work. The tracker just makes it easier.
