Why kids who read 20 minutes a day hear 1.8 million more words per year
There's a stat that changed how I think about reading with kids:
A child who reads just 20 minutes a day is exposed to 1.8 million words per year. A child who reads 5 minutes? Only 282,000.
That gap compounds. By 6th grade, the 20-minute reader has the vocabulary of a college student.
But here's the thing most parents miss — it's not about forcing reading time. It's about finding stories that kids actually want to pick up again.
That's why I started LittleReads. Short, illustrated digital stories designed for 6-10 year olds that are genuinely fun. Adventures, mysteries, silly characters, real lessons woven in naturally.
The trick isn't getting kids to read. It's giving them something worth reading.
