The #1 mistake casual bettors make (and how to fix it)
Most casual bettors lose money for one simple reason: they bet with their gut instead of a system.
I've been there. Throwing down on my favorite team because "they're due." Chasing losses with parlays. Convincing myself the line was wrong because of a hot take I saw on Twitter.
Here's what changed everything for me — I started treating betting like investing:
1. Fixed unit sizing. I never risk more than 1-3% of my bankroll on a single play. Doesn't matter how confident I am.
2. Line shopping. A half-point difference compounds massively over hundreds of bets. I check at least 3 books before placing anything.
3. Tracking every single bet. When you see your actual numbers — not the highlight-reel version in your head — you learn which sports, bet types, and situations you're actually profitable in.
4. Saying no more than saying yes. The best bettors I know pass on 80% of games. Discipline IS the edge.
If any of this resonates, I break down my full process inside Newsletter Picks — daily picks with full reasoning, transparent tracking, and a community of bettors who actually take this seriously.
