The 2-Minute Rule That Broke My Procrastination Cycle

I used to lose 4-5 hours a day to my phone. Instagram, YouTube, Reddit — you know the loop. I'd set goals on Sunday night and by Wednesday I hadn't started a single one.

What changed wasn't motivation. It wasn't discipline either — at least not at first.

It was a dumb-simple rule: If it takes less than 2 minutes, do it right now.

Not "put it on a list." Not "I'll do it after this video." Right now.

Reply to that email. Put your shoes on. Open the document. Close the app.

The trick is that almost nothing actually takes 2 minutes. But once you start, you don't stop at 2 minutes. You reply to the email, then you reply to three more. You open the document, then you write for 20 minutes.

Procrastination isn't a motivation problem. It's a starting problem.

The 2-minute rule eliminates the starting problem entirely. There's no mental negotiation — the rule is binary. Less than 2 minutes? Do it. Done.

I built NoExcuses around this kind of thinking: small, concrete systems that actually work for people who've tried everything and still can't stay consistent.
