The real reason creators get destroyed at tax time (it's not the tax rate)

Been building NorasBank for a while and the #1 thing I hear from creators isn't "taxes are too high" — it's "I had no idea I owed that much."

Here's the actual problem: creator income doesn't look like a paycheck. It's a $4k brand deal one week, $200 in AdSense the next, a $12k sponsorship two months later. Nobody's withholding anything. If you're not manually setting aside 25-30% of every single payout the moment it lands, you're just... spending your tax bill without knowing it.

The fix isn't complicated, it's just tedious to do manually:

  • The second a payout hits, immediately move ~25-30% to a separate account you don't touch

  • Do this for every source (ad revenue, sponsors, affiliate, platform payouts) — not just the big ones

  • Reassess your % once a quarter based on actual income, not a guess from January

Most creators skip this because it means babysitting every payout. That's the exact problem I built NorasBank to automate — it catches your payouts and splits off your tax cut instantly, no spreadsheet required.

If you're a full-time creator and this has ever bitten you, curious what income sources give you the most trouble to track. Drop them below.
