The 3 numbers every founder should check every Monday morning
Most founders I work with check revenue. That's it. Maybe profit if they're feeling ambitious.
But revenue alone is a vanity metric when you're trying to make real decisions — like whether you can afford that next hire, or if your pricing is actually working.
Here are the 3 numbers I tell every client to look at every single Monday:
1. Cash runway (in weeks, not months)
Months are too vague. "3 months of runway" sounds comfortable until you realize payroll is in 11 days. Calculate your weekly burn rate and divide your current cash by that. If it's under 12 weeks, you need a plan.
2. Gross margin by service/product line
Not blended. Per line. Most founders are shocked to find their "best seller" is actually their lowest-margin offering. You can't fix pricing you don't measure.
3. Accounts receivable aging
How much money is owed to you, and how old are those invoices? If you're sitting on 60+ days of unpaid invoices, you don't have a revenue problem — you have a collections problem. That's cash you've already earned that isn't in your bank account.
The founders who check these three numbers weekly make better decisions. Not because the numbers are magic, but because they stop guessing and start seeing patterns before they become problems.
If you're running a business with €1M+ in revenue and you're still making big calls on gut feel, we should talk.
