Free readers are not a business

Most writers collect an audience and then wait for the audience to become a living.

It doesn't.

A free list is a list of people who like you at $0. Paid readers are people who decided the work is worth money. That decision does not happen because you posted more. It happens because you named a problem they already have, put a price on the solution, and asked.

Three things that actually convert:

  1. Pick one reader. Not "creators." A novelist who can't get 100 people to pay $8/month. Write only for them.

  2. Sell the outcome, not the archive. Nobody buys "weekly essays." They buy a way out of being unpaid.

  3. Ask every issue. One sentence. A link. No apology.

The Djai Letter is that work, every week.
