Why I think options are the best asset class for young people (and how I'd start from zero today)
Most 18-25 year olds hear "investing" and think they need $10K to get started. That's wrong.
Stock options let you control 100 shares for a fraction of the cost. A $500 account can generate returns that would take $5,000+ in regular stocks. But most people blow up their account because they skip the fundamentals.
Here's the 3-step framework I'd follow if I was starting from scratch today:
Step 1: Learn the language first. Calls, puts, strike price, expiration, the Greeks. Don't trade a single dollar until you can explain these to a friend. Most people skip this and lose money within a week.
Step 2: Paper trade for 30 days. Every brokerage has a simulator. Use it. Track every trade in a spreadsheet — entry, exit, reasoning, result. You're building a decision-making process, not gambling.
Step 3: Start small and defined-risk. Your first real trades should be defined-risk strategies like vertical spreads. You know your max loss before you enter. No surprises.
The biggest edge you have at 18-25? Time. Compound your skills now and the money follows.
I built OptionsEdge to be the course I wish existed when I started — structured, no fluff, built for people with zero experience. If that's you, come check it out.
