1. Chasing losses after the 2:30

You lose the first two races and suddenly you're doubling your stake on a 12/1 shot "to get it back." That's not betting — that's gambling. Fix: set a daily loss limit and walk away when you hit it.

2. Ignoring the going

The ground conditions change everything. A horse that flew on good-to-firm last week can be a different animal on soft. Always check the going report before placing a bet.

3. Backing on name alone

Just because a horse won at Cheltenham doesn't mean it runs well at Kempton. Course form matters more than reputation.
