Can Surfing Actually Make You a Better Skier? The Science Says Yes.
If you surf and ski, you've probably felt it — that moment on the mountain where your body just knows what to do, because you've done something eerily similar on a wave.
That's not a coincidence. It's biomechanics.
The Connection
Surfing and skiing share three fundamental movement patterns:
1. Lateral weight transfer — Shifting pressure from edge to edge (rail to rail on a surfboard, ski to ski on snow). The hip mechanics are nearly identical.
2. Rotational separation — Your lower body turns while your upper body stays quiet and faces the direction of travel. Surfers do this instinctively on every bottom turn. Skiers spend years trying to learn it.
3. Pressure management — Reading the surface beneath you and adjusting pressure through your feet in real time. Waves and snow are both dynamic, constantly changing surfaces.
Why Most Ski Instruction Misses This
Traditional ski lessons treat you like a blank slate. But if you surf, you're not starting from zero — you already have world-class balance instincts. You just need someone to translate them into ski-specific movements.
That's exactly what I built Parallel Turn Mastery to do.
What's Inside
15 structured lessons progressing from stance fundamentals to advanced carving
Off-snow drills you can do at home with a balance board
Surf-to-ski translation tables so you can map what you already know
Community coaching with video feedback on your turns
Certificate on completion to mark your progression
If you've ever felt like your skiing should be better than it is — and you already surf — this course exists for you.
The mountain is just a frozen wave. Time to ride it. 🏄♂️➡️⛷️
