Most cats don't hate grooming. They hate how it's done.

After grooming hundreds of cats and small pets, here's what I've learned:

The #1 mistake: Restraining them too tightly. Cats panic when they feel trapped. A loose hold with escape routes they don't actually use works 10x better than pinning them down.

Sound matters more than touch. Clippers buzzing? That's a threat. We use silent tools and start every session with 5 minutes of just... existing near them. No touching. No tools. Just calm presence.

The 3-visit rule. First visit = sniff the space, get treats, leave. Second visit = gentle brush, more treats. Third visit = actual grooming. By then, most cats walk in relaxed.

Temperature is everything. Lukewarm water, warm towels, warm room. Cold = stress = scratching.

If your cat comes home from the groomer hiding under the bed for 2 days, that's not normal. That's trauma.
