One income. One payday. The 20-minute reset.

Most one-income households don't fail in the last week of the month. They fail in the first 48 hours after payday.

The check hits. Groceries. A "small" Amazon order. Kids need something. By Friday the number in the account is a guess.

Here's the reset I run every payday. Twenty minutes. Phone on the table, not in your hand.

Minute 1–5: the real number. Open the bank app. Write down the deposit. Not the balance. The deposit. That's the only money this cycle.

Minute 5–12: the four buckets. Rent/mortgage. Utilities. Groceries. Kids. Assign those four before anything else. If a bucket doesn't have a number, it will take the leftover anyway.

Minute 12–18: leftover is a decision. Whatever is left is the month. Split it on purpose: gas, sinking funds, one small yes. If leftover is ugly, that's data. Don't "try harder." Cut one bucket next cycle.

Minute 18–20: tell someone. Write one line: in / bills / leftover. That's the whole system.

If you're stretching one income through the month, you don't need a new personality. You need a payday ritual that happens before the money starts walking out the door.
