A nest hit in the middle of the day loses most of its foragers, which are out — they come back to a treated nest and mill around the same spot for days. Treated at dusk the colony is home and the job is finished in one visit. Nests inside a wall cavity are different again: sealing the entry without treating first drives them into the room, which is the one mistake that really matters here.
