Made the mistake of tracking my dog's vaccines in my phone's Notes app for a year. Missed a rabies booster by 3 months because there was no reminder, no status, nothing — just a wall of text I never reopened.

Here's what actually works if you're doing this yourself in a spreadsheet:

1. One tab per category, not one giant list. Vaccines, vet visits, weight, meds — mixed together they're unscannable. Separated, you can tell at a glance what's overdue.

2. A due-date formula, not a memory. =EDATE(date_given, interval_months) turns 'when was that booster again?' into an automatic answer. Add a status column with IF/TODAY() logic and color it — overdue in red, due soon in amber, up to date in green.

3. A dashboard tab that pulls from everything else. Total vet spend, vaccines overdue, upcoming due dates — one glance, no digging through tabs.

4. A printable emergency card. Allergies, meds, vet number, emergency contact — one page, ready for a sitter or an ER vet who's never met your pet.
