What actually breaks when pharmacies try to build their own delivery app

Spent the last stretch building pharmacy delivery software, and the same mistakes come up every time a pharmacy tries to DIY this:

1. They build one app and bolt everything onto it. Patients, riders, and pharmacy staff have completely different workflows. Cramming them into one interface kills adoption on all three sides — riders need turn-by-turn simplicity, pharmacy staff need fast inventory/order tools, patients need a dead-simple ordering flow.

2. No real-time handoff between roles. Order gets placed → pharmacy needs to see it instantly → rider needs to get dispatched automatically → patient needs live status. If any of these are manual or delayed, you get missed prescriptions and angry customers.

3. Compliance gets bolted on last. Controlled substances, ID verification at delivery, prescription matching — this needs to be in the architecture from day one, not patched in after launch.

4. Underestimating rider logistics. Route optimization and delivery windows matter more than people expect — a pharmacy delivery app isn't just DoorDash with pills, timing matters medically.

If you're a pharmacy owner or chain thinking about launching delivery, happy to talk through what an admin panel + patient app + pharmacy app + rider app setup actually needs to handle. Built exactly this at PharmaFleet — ready to deploy rather than build from zero.
