The reason most partnership deals stall isn't the term sheet — it's who owns the relationship after signature

Spent years on corp dev and partnerships teams, and here's the pattern that kills more deals post-signature than any negotiation ever does: nobody owns the relationship after the ink dries.

During the deal, there's a clear owner — someone driving the term sheet, chasing legal, managing the calendar. The moment it's signed, that ownership evaporates. The partnership gets 'handed off' to whoever's convenient, momentum dies, and six months later everyone's wondering why the partnership 'didn't work' — when really, nobody worked it.

If you're closing a partnership right now: name the post-signature owner in the same conversation as the term sheet. Not after. That single decision predicts more long-term partnership success than almost any clause in the agreement.

I coach founders and operators on exactly this — sourcing, negotiating, and actually running partnerships and corp dev after close. Happy to go deeper in the comments if you're mid-deal.
