Why simple planners are the best first digital product (and how to make 10 in a week)

I've tried a lot of digital product ideas — courses, printables, notion templates, you name it. But planners consistently have the best effort-to-revenue ratio for beginners. Here's why:

Low design skill required. You don't need Illustrator or years of design experience. A clean layout in Canva or Google Slides is all it takes. Buyers want functional, not fancy.

Repeat buyers are built in. People buy planners year after year, season after season. A "2026 Weekly Planner" has a natural refresh cycle. You're not building one product — you're building a product line.

The listing is 80% of the sale. Most people spend weeks perfecting their planner and 10 minutes on the listing. Flip that. A strong title, clear mockup photos, and benefit-driven bullet points will outsell a "perfect" design every time.

The real unlock: batching. When I started producing planners in batches of 10 instead of one at a time, my output 5x'd. Same design system, same layout grid, just different themes and covers. You build the template once, then swap content.

If you've been sitting on the idea of selling digital products but keep overthinking it — start with planners. They're simple, they sell, and you can have 10 listed within a week if you follow a system.
