Why Most ColorOS Ports Fail — and Where 🔍

After enough bring-ups, the failure points stop being random. Almost every failed port dies at one of five places.

1. Vendor blob mismatch

Symptom: black screen right after the splash.

The most common killer. You're mixing blobs from a different build fingerprint than your base. Blobs and vendor partition have to agree.

2. fstab / partition layout

Symptom: bootloop at the logo.

Your fstab doesn't match the actual partition table. Check it against the stock layout before you build, not after.

3. Missing modem blobs

Symptom: boots fine, no SIM detected.

Easy to drop when trimming the vendor partition. If you removed anything modem-related, put it back.

4. Kernel module not built in

Symptom: no WiFi or Bluetooth.

The module exists but wasn't included in your build. This is a defconfig problem, not a driver problem.

5. Kernel cmdline

Symptom: stuck on the charging screen.

Boot arguments not matching what the platform expects. Small error, total failure.

What PortLab is

A tested, documented ColorOS porting pipeline — device trees, vendor blobs, kernel handling, build commands, and the specific errors that break most first attempts. Written from real bring-up work, not assembled from forum threads.

Why I built it

Most porting guides tell you what to do. Almost none tell you what breaks and why. I lost days to a black screen after splash before realising it was a vendor blob mismatch. That kind of thing shouldn't be tribal knowledge.
