5 things I wish someone told me about losing weight after having a baby
After working with hundreds of postpartum women, these are the patterns I see over and over:
1. Your hormones aren't working against you — but your timeline is unrealistic.
It took 9 months to grow a human. Give yourself at least that long. The "4 weeks postpartum flat belly" posts on Instagram are either genetics, filters, or both.
2. Sleep > Exercise.
If you slept 4 hours and you're choosing between a workout and a nap — take the nap. Cortisol from sleep deprivation will sabotage your progress faster than a missed workout ever will.
3. You don't need a diet. You need a structure.
Most new moms aren't overeating — they're eating chaotically. Skipping meals, then binging at 10pm because they're starving. A simple meal framework beats any diet plan.
4. Walking is underrated.
You don't need HIIT. You don't need to "earn" your food. A daily 20-minute walk with the stroller does more for your metabolism, mood, and recovery than most gym sessions.
5. Community changes everything.
The women who actually stick with it aren't the most motivated — they're the most connected. Having even one person who gets it makes the difference.
If any of this resonated, that's exactly what we do inside LeanLife Academy. Real guidance for real moms, no BS.
